I've got an iPod plugged into the cable in the glovebox and my car has the RCD310 unit.
Sound quality when using the DAB radio is fantastic and clear/loud. When when using the iPod it produces feint high pitched pops and cracks.
Is this a known issue? The cable is a genuine VW item. I'll try blasting the plugs and sockets with compressed air but I can't see any debris in there. I can see the glovebox has been removed previously (witness marks on the screw heads) so perhaps the previous owner had the same issue and tried to investigate.
Any advise appreciated. Cheers.

What ipod is it? Older ipods with the 30 pin connector sometimes need the backlight turned off to stop the crackle

Yeah it's an old 5th Gen (the one with the pointless camera!) with the big connector.alexperkins wrote:What ipod is it? Older ipods with the 30 pin connector sometimes need the backlight turned off to stop the crackle
After Googling a bit I read something about turning the volume down on the iPod. It was maxed out and turning it down does seem to have resolved the issue for now. Will check out the backlight thing too, thanks for the tip.
Really impressed with the standard sound system. The one in my old Skoda is total crap!
I got a bit overexcited when I saw the Bluetooth option in the menu and thought I could connect my phone, but it doesn't seem to work as my phone can't find it. Guessing I need some additional module plugging in the back of the HU.
