Do Volkswagen engines run at higher temperatures ?

Whenever I'm in a car park (especially in this hot weather) you hear the cars coming in with the cooling fans working on Honda's, Fords, Toyota's in fact most of them but not so many Volkswagen's.
I have never heard my Polo fan kick in and I had an Volkswagen UP for 3 years and never heard that either !

I hear mine working quite a lot at this time of year in the hot weather when I'm stationary in traffic - more so than I can remember on my previous VW's.

The engine in the GTI is more powerful than my small 1.0 litre 3 cylinder engine and probably develops more heat.....that could be one explanation.
