Fuel consumption
Fuel consumption
I have a 2012 polo 6R hence why I am posting in this forum lol , but I believe it is very heavy on fuel, its a 1.2 litre and I drive it nearly every day, the miles just tumble I am lucky to even get 100 miles on a £20 fill up, I am not even driving it round in a way where it would consume a lot of fuel just normal every day driving. Another thing I have noticed is that I will fill it up to the brim to go london it will go down 2 bars, on the way back it will completely empty the tank, once again driving sensibly. I'm not sure if it is in my head or it is an actual issue so wondering if anyone could help clarify, ever since I bought it it's given me problems with the power steering etc.

Re: Fuel consumption
How many miles do you get per gallon?
What types of road do you mostly drive on?

Re: Fuel consumption
Well first of all, let's be a bit more specific.
1.2 litre engine on petrol? If so, the 12V NA engine or the TSI? or the 1.2 TDI?
What's your MPG? 100 miles on 20 quid doesn't quite dot it for me.
The bars are notoriously inaccurate anyway. The first last forever and the last two are 20 miles.
What about your service history? Tires, pressure, size? Lowered? General state of maintenance? Driving style? Highway or city driving?

Re: Fuel consumption
If am driving like normal then I get around maybe 30MPG, 35MPG max I would say and I mostly drive on the motorway but Its a mix of motorway driving and local roads.Ricmondo wrote: Mon May 28, 2018 7:28 pm How many miles do you get per gallon?

Re: Fuel consumption
sorry just didn't know what to include lol, its 1.2 litre petrol not entirely sure if it's the 12V NA engine, but definitely not a TSI, not sure if that means its a 12V NA engine, mentioned in another reply driving normally I can get around 30 mpg but max around 35 mpg and that's mostly on the motorway/high speed roads. Very good service history most of them with VW itself, then last 2/3 with a independent garage. tyres are 185/55 R15 stock size, not lowered, in very good condition I maintain it myself, and mainly motorway driving high speed driving like duals etciichel wrote: Mon May 28, 2018 7:30 pm Well first of all, let's be a bit more specific.

Re: Fuel consumption
I would not place any interest on how the fuel gauge changes, as you have brimmed it - which is not the best idea with petrol engines as it can lead to EVAP system failure which will cost more to fix even if you fix it than the extra time it takes to stop and refuel - you will have added in an extra maybe 6 litres and also, for some silly idea, all VW Group cars that I have owned have had fuel gauges that are optimistic over the first half of the tank and very pessimistic over the last half of the tank.
My wife's 2002 9N Polo, which was a bit heavier than the 6R Polo, with an old fashioned 1.4 16V petrol engine and 5 speed gearbox managed 35>40MPG on normal use including elevation changes and 10 mile journeys.
How we drive also has an influence on MPG, but always only ever quote MPG as "miles per £" or "days per £/gallon" are meaningless.

Re: Fuel consumption
Never knew that haha, the fuel gauge really is a piece of work, I never knew it was that notorious for being wrong haha, yeah my local journeys mostly include elevation changes as well for about 7/8 miles and I can just about get 30mpg if I am driving carefully. Thank you for your help!
