Re: Grooved brakes
I've used ATE Powerdiscs on a 2000 B5 Passat 4Motion with no problems, and they were grooved - I picked them so that initial loss of braking under cold weather salty wet road conditions disappeared.
Edit:- plus the grooves tend to clean up the pad friction surface and so get rid of the tendency for the pads to get glazed under normal light use in cold weather with salty wet roads.
The ATE Powerdiscs had sort of elliptical grooves to maybe minimise noise under braking?

Re: Grooved brakes
When it comes to disc replacment, I think I'll go for similar.
More or less the same cost, and they look a lot cooler.
