Hows everyone getting on with their 9n's?

Just thought, we haven't had a topic like this in a while

Thankfully, I still have no rattles from the FSi. The only thing that rattles is the CD's I have in the glovebox. Why didn't they either insulate it better or put a rubberised/trimed finish in there?

Other problems: Dealer on third attempt to fix a seat cover on properly, o/s door panel coming unstitched*, n/s/r caliper needs replacing and the cupholder is broken.

So as per usual. Just the niggly little things, but they're all things that require a few visits to the dealer (and 5 attempts to book it in before they finally bother to collect it from where I work

).
Still love the car and wouldn't change it unless the new Golf GTi is something *really* special or I can get a SEAT Ibiza Cupra TDi cheap enough

* I've a feeling the person who stitched together my interior trim was a bit simple. This is the third part of the interior that has to be replaced due to stitching coming loose

I picked my 2004 1.2 12v at the end of May and appart from the modified bushes (that were replaced after 2 weeks) everything seems to be ok.
(B4 the modified bushes, the car felt really bad quality

, and felt like if it was going to fall apart! )

however, minor sweaks from the front seats and sometimes from the steering wheel do exist. i dont fancy visiting the dealer for minor sweaks, i dont think its worth the bother. (takes ages as waiting list is "always" long)

i dont have rattles from the dash either,

Not happy with the rear drums, they have started to rust!
Im happy with the MPG

(even with big 18s).

My 2002 Polo has the well knowned problem... Rattles in the center console. After 10 visits to the dealer they haven't figure it out. Next September I'm going there again. Apart from that (and the weak motor 1.2 12v 65bhp) I have no complaints. Just think that they coul have put some better plastics in the dash. The plastics are to rigid and comparing to my brother's 2003 Clio, my brother's car wins everytime in that departement.

I've had it for almost 2years now. No surprises, no rattles, just plain fun

I've just ordered a raid airbag steering wheel(for that sporty feeling

) and I plan to repaint the car this winter. Planning on keeping it for a while too

)

01-2004: picked up my new car. Immediately noted the creaking suspension. Brakepads made noise also when I drove away in the morning. Added to the dealer-to-do-list.

04-2004: windows starting to squeek in the rubbers, dash is starting to make noises.

05-2004: fitted lowering springs and 17 inch wheels. Rear-shockmounts are starting to rattle. Added to the dealer-to-do-list. Sometimes the cold engine doesn't pick up smoothly, shaking until I press the pedal deeper.

06-2004: airbox ain't suited for the need of air. Engine is feeling restricted. I opened the airbox and noticed that it's full of restictions and flow-reducing plastic. There is one tube that ain't fixed to the airbox and can be taken out immediately. That piece of s**t

is restricting the air a lot. It's just a tiny little hole where all the air the engine needs has to go through. I'm gonna buy a decent carbon airbox which provides the car with enough air.

07-2004: took the car to my dealer for the things mentioned above. They needed 3 days to fix the car (Shockmounts not in stock). They gave me a free of charge Lupo those 3 days. Problems solved. The creaking of the dashboard is still there but it ain't bothering me and it doesn't help to take my car over and over to the dealer. It's just the material that's so bad.

08-2004: installing audio. Many rattles occure when music is playing loud. So I stripped my car to fit some noise-reduction material. When I knocked with my hand on several bodyparts the sound was like an empty can of beans. The floor on the left side made a terrible sound, which is being produced by the heatshield mounted above the exhaust. Really crappy design.

Apart from the rattles / Squeezy rear brake / air circulation / .. I have a new defect in my right front brake pad recently.. The mileage of my 03 Polo is only 23XXXkm... VAG should really do something to improve their parts quality... BUT anyway I still love my Polo

My '52 plate FSi has the usual line up of annoyances -- squeeky dash, creaking suspension, creaking driver's seat, and of course the rear door seals that don't seem to seal quite properly.

Okay, so I have some niggles, but I still wouldn't swap my car for anything else right now (although like Nelson, I'm tempted by the TDI 160 Ibiza Cupra).

This is my first German car (previous one was a Punto [don't say it]), and the overall build quality is so much higher -- I don't think I'd ever buy another Italian car, and to be honest, I think it'd take quite a lot to make me buy non-VAG from now on.

Dashboard rattles

, creaky suspension (fixed), squeaky brakes (it seems to be caused by brake dust), did I mention the damn dashboard rattles, thought I had a leaky rear windows (but I think it was just slightly open).

All really minor stuff, BUT and here's the big BUT, VW sell themselves on being top quality, I can live with these minor toothing troubles. However, I can see why VWs seem to get panned in customer surveys, people are actively sold perfection but don't get it.

Would I buy another one, yes, but only if the salesman said "if there are any dashboard rattles you can shove the dashboard up my butt, sideways"

where were all the Uk polo's made then?
Haven't really heared anyone complaining about dash-rattles and creacky sunspension in Belgium?

My dash got worse and worse, until I took the whole thing off and it was then unbearable after putting it back!

Other than that my Polo was fine apart from my local dealer which I hope someone one day takes to the papers etc (the parts dept was fine) but car sales and service was disgustingly poor.

I think 9/10 Poloâ€™s in the U.K are made in Spain.

sbp, you have a very good point. Friends of my parents say they never buy products from a German company unless they're actually made in Germany as the quality is never the same.

All "normal" UK polos are made in the Spanish plant. UK Dunes (and I think all Funs as well) are made in the Slovakian plant.

Build quality on the Spanish cars generally seems to be poor. Build quality on the Dune I reviewed was excellent! Almost up to Skoda's standards (I'm not joking here either, I really believe the Fabia is a better built Polo than the Polo!)

For the record, my dash rattles are so bad that my dealer has given up trying to fix them. It's hit me financially as well, as I'll never be able to sell it to a private buyer -- no one would touch it after hearing it!! So, I'll loose Â£500 to Â£750 trading it in against something else.

My only hope is that - like the MK5 Golf GTI - the Polo GTI will be built in Germany only!

it's sad volkswagen allows this. They must know about all these complaints..

I'll remeber next time I buy a vw to check where it will be/was made..
