2008 bluemotion 9n3 gearbox potential issues

Post by wowwow »

Hi all.
New to the forum. So hi.

I've got a 1.4 2008 bluemotion. Had it for. Nearly 2 years and had no issues at all. But around the 5 weeks ago I noticed when pulling off hard (quick) and going from 1st into 2nd - there was no 2nd? Put it in 3rd and was fine, continued driving and stopped at the lights, pulled off and 2nd gear was fine and has been until yesterday when the same happened again. Now I've taken it to a clutch specialist and straight away they said new gearbox. So took it to an independent garage and he wasn't too sure, there is no noise from the gear box when driving, press the clutch down and still fine, he said a clutch and gearbox would or should solve it, so I thought I'd ask on here to see if anyone has had or came across this before and or what the likely causes could be. The independent garage slightly adjusted something and still today is driving like a dream.
Again, I've only noticed this 8f I drive hard and do a quick.gear change, under normal driving it's fine.

Thank you in advance.

The garage might have adjusted the gear change cables, if so that could have solved your problem, other than that, maybe the syncro hub(s) are suffering from wear and tear and you are just not giving them time to do their job - ie baulking or blocking the next gear.

With a car of this age and so value, if I were you, I'd try to work round this as replacing the clutch or gearbox and clutch would be very expensive - would it not?

Thanks for the heads up. I think it'll be a case of driving sensible from now on, totally agree regarding costs for replacements, £1200 for recon box and clutch, or £5-600 for second hand box and new clutch. As I say, last fee days of normalish driving has thrown no problems so what you've said makes sense.

Thank you.
