The R WRC engine is the same as the mk6 Golf R and Scirocco R, however with different accessory parts like downpipe, charge air cooler and air intake.

It is not as easy as just dropping in an R engine. The R WRC is a 6R which has a different electrical architecture than the 6C. There may also be a difference in suspension parts between the R WRC and the 6C GTI and most critically, the brakes are different. The 6C GTI may use the same 312mm front brake setup as the R WRC, but the R WRC has its own rear setup with larger, ventilated discs.

I don't know how it works where you live but where I live, it still wouldn't be street legal even if you converted to the R WRC brakes after the engine swap

Why would you want to?

1.8 in the 6c is capable of 350+bhp. So you might aswell spend the money it would cost to convert on just extracting more power out of the stock engine.

I can think of many cheaper ways to kill yourself - at least It would save a trip to Dignitas LOL!

To get an insurance company to even think about covering the car you'd have to uprate the brakes at the very least and to avoid being embrassed by a Gee Wiz at the lights you'd have to somehow convert to 4 wheel drive as you'd struggle to get FWD to make use of 300bhp
