Hey all. I’ve had a look on the search but not yet found anything I’m looking for.

I currently own an R32 and looking to purchase a 2011 plate polo 1.2 SE as a daily runner. The one I’m looking at has around 45k miles and looks in good condition on the pictures.

Is there anything in particular that I need to look for with these cars? Are they chain or cambelt driven (ie, is it due to be replaced?) and are there any common faults to look for/ask about?

1.2 petrol engines run a cam belt - I think VW recommend it’s replaced every 50k miles so ask the owner if it’s been done recently.
Only tend to be minor electrical faults if anything that effects these, so a low-mileage example is unlikely to have any mechanical issues.

No No No!

The 1.2TSI 8V engine’s in 2011 Polos have a chain driven cam shaft and maybe some early design issues with this area of the engine which will be most of the reason that VW Group binned these engines after a very short production life, late 2014> built Polos have the 1.2TSI 16V belt driven engines which so far seem to be a good engine.
