Just collected my new Polo GTI today and was having a look to see where the ODBII port was and noticed this control box dangling down just above the accelerator pedal. Anybody know what it is and if it should be dangling around like this?

What does the writing that we're so close to seeing say?

Yes, whatever information is printed on the side of that ‘black box’ might give a clue as to what it is. If there’s a part number printed on the box, a quick ‘google’ on the part number might also tell you what it is.
Whatever it is, I’d be surprised if it’s meant to be dangling in that manner. I suspect it’s become detached from its fixings, or it was never installed correctly in the factory.

The dangling box is meant to be strapped to the other big box by a clear band that wraps around it and disappears into the housing of the dangling box.https://www.flickr.com/photos/11062596@ ... ted-public
