Video on centre screen

Post by fazzy »

I believe as a factory setting, there is no possibility to do that.
Maybe I'm wrong?
Can you watch a movie/netflix/youtube on the centre screen?

As far as i know most screens will play any video, it just depends on the infotainment system file support. Again dont hold me to it but I'm sure I read on this VW website that the Composition Media doesn't support video playback:

I imagine it is a 'Safety' thing -- Not a good idea to watch a video while driving.....

I’m not certain about video playback functionality of current infotainment units but some previous generation VW infotainment units certainly used to support video playback but only while the vehicle is stationary.

In the UK it is illegal for infotainment units to be modified to allow for video in motion (VIM) - video playback while the car is moving - where the screen is in the driver’s line of sight. There have been instances in the UK where owners of vehicles with VIM have been involved in an accident and video playback wasn’t being used at the time but the driver has still been prosecuted due to VIM functionality having been (illegally) activated. Having VIM activated in the UK would also invalidate your insurance.

So if it’s possible to activate this functionality, then I’d suggest anyone considering doing this checks out the legal and insurance position in their country first.
