Hi All
So I've been offered a 2010 1.2 77Kw Tsi Polo 77k KM / 44k Miles , for 1000GBP but its got problems . First off its got a FSH , 4 new tires and in immaculate condition ...other than a timing chain rattle and a bent valve (highly suspected from a leakdown test) It still starts and drives but its rough.
The owner has decided it's time to flick it off and asked if I'm interested. So I've been doing some reading and i think I'm looking at
New timing chain
New head gasket set
New valves and caps
Trip to the machine shop for skim and polish
Valve guide(s) ?
New pistons
Big end shells
None of the above scares me but i cant seem to find an answer to a couple of questions. Can you remove the pistons after dropping the sump , has anybody actually done a complete rebuild and overhaul. Anybody ever bought one of the complete rebuild kits off Ebay? I should note that the car is going to be used as a general run around , not raced so there's no need to go to super strength parts.
A good condition 1.2/1.4 of the same age goes for about 5000 GBP down here in NZ
Is the price right ?

Re: Is the price right ?
Hi, the trouble is, everyone living in UK will think that your price for buying this car is just nuts, but I my older daughter worked in Perth Oz for a year and then KL, and so I know that cars hold onto a lot more of their value than they do in UK.
Sorting out a VW Group car in NZ, costly I'd think due to getting bits from Germany, so why not just get the head off and see one is going on under there and leave the block alone unless you think it needs skimmed, same for pistons and crank bearings.
