What brand engine oil do VW dealers use?

Post by Harrihealey02 »

I’m getting my car serviced by Volkswagen and wanted to know what brand they use? I’ve heard people say Shell, Castrol, and Qauntum. I have my preference towards Fuchs oil as they have been the best for me in the past (smoother, more mpg and quieter). I know it doesn’t really matter what brand as long as it meets the oil approved spec  just that some appear to have more TBN and higher Viscosity index than others within the approved and I’d like to go for the best as my car has been remapped.

Phone your local dealership service dept up and ask.

Quantum which is just rebranded ???'s product is initially intended for aftermarket use, ie to sell to customers, or to sell to non VW Group workshops that want to buy it.

Most dealership groups will have a supplier that can provide all oils requirement for the range of marques that dealership group covers - which might vary region to region geographically.

My Audi S4 had Mobil One at its first service at the selling dealership and Shell from my local Audi dealership in a slightly different region and dealership group.

Interesting, which engine, to me it looks like the OP has a 1.0TSI engine which is built by Skoda in CZ, it is true that Castrol is one of the main design/test houses for lubricating oils, but the current default factory fit engine oil brand will be Fuchs, Castrol will have won the right to have their name on the oil filler cap/cover, but that is only to entice/encourage users to buy Castrol engine oil.

My engine is the 1.6 TDi and remapped to 140hp so it’s a lot more than what it was standard that is why I want to make sure I have the best of the approved oils.

They actually have a partnership Vw and Castrol.
The dealership has huge castrol oil drums in the workshop.

You might find, as VW Group did not approve of the output that engine is running now, that "best" and "approved" could be two different things, if I were you, in the absence of your own hard facts, I'd believe what the majority of others running that map on that engine use.

I'd expect that will be regional, not much Castrol used in Germany or Spain, they have their own big players.

Yes, I failed to include that in my posting about my "Audi used Mobil One 3W-30 - then next dealership used Shell 0W-30". It might have been, that Shell brought an approved 0W-30 to the market place back in 2013/2014 before anyone else, so workshops moved to Shell as a supplier of 0W-30.

Use opieoils.co.uk you can sort by reg or brand or grade.

I have noticed that it’s a mixed bag really, I went with a company called remap kings and they came to my house and did it. It cost around £220. First thing I noticed was that it felt more vibrational than before, when in low revs and driving around town the car feels like the engine is doing more work. I noticed that my economy improves on long journeys, first time I’ve ever averaged 70+ mpg on a single journey! But in town driving and normal driving without using motorway it is probably slightly more juicy.
