Adding a Turbo

Hi Guys,

I currently have a Polo beats with 65bhp which I purchased last summer. I purchased one with the lowest engine power due to thinking it would be more economical and I wouldn't need to put my foot down much, as I'll be doing a lot of town driving. I use this car everyday and it feels massively under powered and it is really annoying me. I've done a few ebay searches and have seen Turbos taken out of the TSI engines (2019 models) and was wondering if this could be added to my engine. Does anyone have any advice with installing this type of turbo.

I don’t think it would be as simple as just bolting a turbocharger on to your engine. Worth having a read of this;

Considerations;
- Cost; likely to be prohibitively expensive.
- You’d invalidate your warranty for anything engine (and powertrain?) related.
- You’d need to inform your insurer of the modifications and they’d almost certainly increase your premium.
- When the time comes to sell the car, you may have problems selling it.

My advice would be don’t do it - it’d be cheaper to sell your car and buy one with an engine that was turbocharged from the outset.

Indeed. If I was you I would consider a remapping instead.
I did some research but it seems that there isn't a whole lot of tuning options though, but i found this. : https://www.toptuning.it/en/chip-tuning ... V_5773.htm.

And to be fair you can't really expect the 65 hp engine to be strong. I believe the 60 HP UP might be even more fun and weights considerably less.

The best is probably to sell the car and get the TSI engined vehicle. Adding a turbocharger is very complicated and expensive.
The easiest and cheapest way out is to sell and buy another car.

If you do consider adding a turbocharger:
- Make sure it fits the head
- Add an intercooler and necessary piping
- Change the ECU
- Add some sensors, flaps and actuators
- Perhaps another gearbox/clutch/driveshaft due to increased torque
- Different inlet manifold?
- Different exhaust
- Insurance?
- MOT/road legal?

Waste of money, huge cost, reduced reliability due to extra strain on the engine. Go buy the model you really want is the easiest and best way out of your problem.

Agreed, will be way to much costs and labour to make it safe.

Much better to take the depreciation hit and buy a more power car that suits the persons needs. We’ve all been in a position where we’ve had buyers remorse and taken the hit on a change to a better car.
