What to look for when buying?

Post by Botanic »

Hello Poloers!

I recently sold my Lupo and decided to go one step up in size and get a Polo.
What I think I want is a Polo from 2016 or 2017. Polos from those years have the new radio, don't have too many miles on them yet and the prices seem to be okay.
I want a petrol engine, but I don't know which one. Are there any engine types/sizes to avoid?
What else should I look for when buying a Polo from 2016 or 2017?

Which colours did the Polo come in during those years? I have only seen ads for white, black, grey, red and blue.

I'm not in a hurry for a new car, so I have plenty of time to wait until the right one turns up.

My wife bought a new Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL back in August 2015, ordered April 2015, I did not ever consider buying an SEL trim Polo for a second car, but when I looked into specs, the SEL included most of what I would have wanted on an SE trim level car with factory fitted extras, so it worked out being cheaper to buy the SEL and only add a few extra factory fitted options, though trim level names and content varies country to country. I really did want to end up with LED headlights and auto wipers and few other items.

Colour pallet available from VW for these Polos is very limited, we de-faulted to Silver for her 2002 VW Polo 1.4 16V SE and ended up doing the same this time round - it was more a question of "which colour don't you want?" as opposed to "which colour do you want".

6 speed manual gearbox and the 1.2TSI 110PS engine works okay for us, fuel wise the car good for short in town journeys and powerful enough for much longer journeys where the fuel usage is even better. That car came from the factory fitted with 16" alloys, which I replace with 15" alloys for cold weather times of year, winter tyres size being 185/60(?) 15. Front brakes on at least the 110PS version are 288mm which give a far better feel than the 256mm on lower powered cars.
