Hi I've just changed the resistor pack on my polo , everything is now working great .
The issue I have is I'm getting a weird smell through the air vents , it's kind of like burning plastic.
Should I be worried or will this smell stop after a while ?

I would be worried. Something smells like it's burning or melting. And you don't know what it is. That's not a very good situation to be in.

I've taken a picture of the resistor through the filter box . It doesn't look burnt

I guess you should check the resistor pack again.
If you find that the thermal fuse breaks regularly (interval between 1 or 2 weeks) you will have to check the fan motor, the motor shaft should rotate smoothly, without roughness of any kind.

You have good eyes I didn't notice that or more like didn't know what I was looking for.
Spoke to a local garage, first question he said was did you get the resistor from eBay (I did ).
Might be worth buying a genuine one and try again?.
I think the first resistor broke because the pollon filter was full of fluffy stuff

A genuine is also probably just a Hella/Valeo resistor with a VW label on it. But, like ciclo said, you could and perhaps should check the fan itself, does it rotate freely?
