6R's DRL different depending on trim level?

Post by Ging3r »

I recently bought a 2011 1.2 105 polo SEL as my first car; the previous owner has lowered (notched), rcd330, air filter, splitter, roof spoiler and probably a load of other poorly done modifications that I'll find out about at a garage when it falls apart :lol:
Despite not knowing any of this before going to look at the car, it does look rather sharp and I have decided to keep the mods as the insurance is oddly cheap - until the renewal in December at least. However, the welding for the notching has been done poorly according to the local garage and there are some quite obvious respray lines on certain panels in addition to other slightly off things about the polo (e.g. air-con not working and the headlights dim when using power like steering or window controls). Most of it is fixable and if you don't look too closely it's fine but I imagine down the road it may have a few more issues, but I do love it!

Anyway, I wondered if the DRLs were placed differently depending on the trim level? This SEL has the DRLs as ever-so-slightly dimmer dipped beams whereas most polos I've seen here and out and about seem to have the front foglights as their DRLs - is this normal or another "customisation" by the previous owner?

Also, are the lighting parts from ledperf.co.uk really as plug-and-play as they make out?

I’ve seen Polos the same or similar age to yours and from memory they don’t all have DRL’s in the fog light light cluster in the outer lower bumper.

I’ve just done a quick search on the forum and found this discussion thread which does suggest some Polos do use dipped beam headlamps as DRL’s;

Therefore, your car probably did come from the factory when new with dipped beam headlamps functioning as DRL’s.
