Sony Carplay stereo canbus issues

Hi everyone,
I'm having some problems fitting a Sony AX3005DB Carplay head unit to a Polo 6R (2013); although my wiring harness has a canbus adapter, the switching on and off of the stereo doesn't happen as it should and I can't quite work out what is going wrong.

Turning the ignition on will power up the head unit, and then removing the key will power it down. However:

• If I repeat this in less than 10 seconds (on, off, wait 10 seconds, on) it still works
• If I wait more than 10 seconds, the head unit won't power up until I physically disconnect and reconnect the canbus adapter

Can anyone deduce from this what might be happening? Any advice gratefully received.

I found this old thread which describes exactly the same issue I have, with the same Canbus wiring harness: the InCarTech 20-156-IGN. Given they describe the same solution (unplugging and reconnecting the CanBus adapter) I'm inclined to think a different make may work better.

I bought this CTSVW002.2 kit from Connects2 and it works perfectly - even the steering wheel controls. Very pleased!
