Dynamat - "Sound Damping"

Well well.

As I have finally managed to install my head-unit and the sub (not the front new speakers, yet).

I have already noticed a bit of rattling and annoying vibration noise coming from the back and I suspect its from the boot and the rear side panels.

Not good.

Bit of looking around, found this thing called Dynamat! KA ching!

So does anyone else use this and is it any good?

Something like this any good?

I personally would go to your local Builders Merchants and get a roll of roof flashing.

Similar to Dynamat, but a fraction of the cost.

And while your there get some double roman ridge roof tiles for the top of the polo

actually josh has a good idea there....that dynamat is expensive.

Hmm... well I don't know what else to use. What about 'Brown Bread', ever heard of that?

My local dealer (Sextons) only got Dynamat stuff. But that door kit only costs like Â£9.99 or Â£10.99 for the extreme version from Car Audio Direct.

I dunno....

I used a mixture of Brown Bread and Dynamat on my Polo.

i WILL be using roofing stuff on my Fabia.

What roofing stuff? Any good with the Dynamat stuff? 'cos it would be easier for me to get hold of them.

The roofing stuff is the stuff I mentioned earlier on in this thread.

It's called Flashing.

It's essentially the same as dynamat/brown bread (ie a fairly thick aluminium foil with a bitumen mastic type substance covering one side).

It costs a few quid for a roll. MUCH cheaper than either Dynamat or Brown Bread and does pretty-much the same job.

Polo2k on this forum has used it in his Polo and you can tell it's doing it's thing.

Just call your local builders merchants and ask them for a price for a roll of flashing.

Ask them how many sq. mtrs you get, then compair it to the dynamat/brown bread. I think you'll be surprised.

flashing doesn't quite do the same job. is cheaper for a reason, it's not as good.

I used it on my last car and will never use it again.

It's not as sticky as dynamat and dynamat extreme. and you need to use a lot more of it to get the same results.

I would never use it in my doors, when my door panels got hot from the sun, the flashing began to peel off, not good if it gets stuck on your windows!!!!!

On my polo I have used some sound deadening from the www.bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk look for the patterned stuff.

much better than flashing but still cheaper than dynamat.

Car audio direct are doing a bulk pack of dynamat extreme on offer at the mo, check it out as its good value for money.

I couldn't actually find any stuff about "flashing".

And @ ^Adam^, that stuff on bodyshopwarehouse.co.uk is quite small isn't it?! It's like 200mm*500mm for Â£27.42 inc. delivery and VAT!

yep, thats right, but you get 10 pieces of it!

total for one pack is Â£25, but that is because delivery is Â£12!!!!

what i did was get a load of people together, 2 packs each, delivery is free over Â£100, works out like Â£30 for 2 packs, which is 20 pieces.

i reckon 4 packs would do a car quite easily!
