I have been driving for the past few weeks and the engine warning light would turn on for an hour or so and then turn off. This happened twice. However, engine performance-wise, it is running perfectly with no signs of engine damage.
This morning my car would not start. It turns over and the fuel is getting to the rail it just isn't starting. I put it under a reader and got separately 2 codes for each start; "p0016 crankshaft position-camshaft position correlation Bank 1 Sensor A" and "p0341 camshaft position sensor A circuit range/ performance bank 1 or single sensor"
My fear is that the timing chain has stretched. However, I doubt this as it was only replaced within the past 40k miles and has since been regularly serviced. Furthermore, the last time the timing chain stretched the car had notable performance issues which have not happened this time around. I am also assuming that if the chain was stretched it would not suddenly cause the engine to not start.
Does anyone have any suggestions?

At first, check/clean the wiring and connector of the G40 sensor. Change G40 sensor. Maybe it will fix the problem.
There may be more causes for the symptoms described, but this is the most common.
For a Polo 9N3 1.2 '2V' this is the sensor:
