Possible timing chain failure

Post by Oakworthboy »

Evening all, first post! My mother has a 2014 polo 1.2 3 cylinder. She drove it to my house, a 20 mile trip and parked it up. After around 2 hours she went to leave. The car turned over but wouldn’t start. Like it had no compression. The only code stored was a camshaft position sensor. The car has 84k on the clock but not sure if the chain has been changed before. Does it sound like the chain has snapped and ruined engine?

Change the camshaft sensor G40.
2min job.
It is located on top of the engine on the right.

+1
This is a first step with a high probability of solving the problem.
It is somewhat strange that the engine does not start even though the G40 sensor fails.

My 2008 polo 9N3 wouldn't start when I had that G40 fault.

Our ex-9N3 1.2 2008 was able to start even with the G40 sensor failure. I guess I had it well trained. 😁
As you say it takes a couple of minutes to change the sensor and clear the fault with a diagnostic tool.
It didn't happen again.
