I recently swapped my old Polo Life 2022 build for a Polo R-Line 2024 build.
On previous VW vehicles I have had with a rear camera they have all been factory built.
My new car was purchased from stock and sadly didn't have a camera fitted and so I paid an extra £600 to have one fitted at the dealership before handover.
I was told that the camera would be exactly the same as a factory built one. My previous cameras have been very high definition with the car graphic overlay on the left side collision indicators being coloured green to red. Also there was a defined green line showing the position of the car when reversing into a parking space as the green lines were the width of a standard space. The new car has a marker box in red but the width is far smaller than a parking space, and colour filled boxes don't actually seem to do anything or reason for being there.
Can anyone here who has a 2024 factory fitted or dealership fitted rear camera take a picture of the screen, as when I questioned the salesman after handover I was told that “all the cameras are the same as factory built and [the one I have] is exactly the same that is put into new Polos and Golf’s”.
Thank you for anyone who can help me out.

Re: 2024 rear reversing camera query
My wife’s new golf is the first VW we’ve had with a reversing camera, and I can confirm it looks nothing like that. Didn’t take a picture but it’s green lines that bend with the wheels and they turn red as the car gets nearer something. Not seen the reversing camera on the polos to comment but yours doesn’t look like the standard VW reversing camera I’ve seen on golfs, passats and tiguans before.

Re: 2024 rear reversing camera query
I had a factory fit reversing camera on my 2020 pre-facelift Polo GTI+ and it looked like the one that’s been retro-fitted in the Polo in the YouTube video at the link below. I no longer own the car, otherwise I would have posted up some pictures so you could see it’s very different to the image from the camera that’s been installed on your new Polo. The font and colour of the ‘Look! Safe to move?’ message on your camera image isn’t the same as the font / colour of the message on the OEM factory camera either - see picture at the bottom of this post.
Here’s the YouTube video I’ve referred to; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5nyzPHi0veM
I think you get the bendy lines that @lancslad1985 has referred to with the high line camera. The camera on my Polo wasn’t the high line version (I think all Polos get the low line version when the camera is factory fitted). It did have the green guide lines though to indicate the width of the car but they didn’t bend when turning the steering wheel.

I don’t know if this helps, but this link shows images from the VW website on their camera https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/techno ... meras.html

Re: 2024 rear reversing camera query
Thank you for posting and confirming my doubts over the camera installed on mine. I'm really angry that the salesman lied, although that wasn't the only thing he did.lancslad1985 wrote: Sat Nov 09, 2024 10:42 pm My wife’s new golf is the first VW we’ve had with a reversing camera, and I can confirm it looks nothing like that. I will be staying away from that dealership in the future.

Yes, that's just like the one I had in the 2022 Polo and the 2019 prior to that.
Thanks for posting.

Re: 2024 rear reversing camera query
Oh boy, am I pissed off now. I don't think I would have felt so bad, although I'd still not be happy, if I had only paid the same as a factory built one but to pay £600 is really getting to me.lancslad1985 wrote: Sun Nov 10, 2024 6:21 am I don’t know if this helps, but this link shows images from the VW website on their camera https://www.volkswagen.co.uk/en/techno ... meras.html

Re: 2024 rear reversing camera query
Thanks again to everyone who took the time to reply to my post.
I have sent an email to the dealership and I'll see what they have to say.
