It does seem to be the logical thing to do. To confine the Polo’s name - and other current model range names such as Golf, Passat etc. - to the history books would have been a bad decision by VW IMHO.

I had considered right away that VW were either creating a brilliant/bold marketing move or making a very big mistake as soon as they launched the ID3 with its deliberate harder/angular lines and naming.

Okay, maybe for the trendsetters there was a real need to go out and buy an EV that didn't look like a normal car so that it was impossible to miss the fact that they had "moved on", but for me, a softer transition would have been a smarter move.

I've only ever owned a single hatchback car as my own transport, I prefer the look of saloons, plus as long as they have folding rear seats, which 99% now have, they can be configured for carrying long loads etc. For our second car, it has always been a hatchback as that type suits local use better than a saloon.

Also, I've never been a person that likes bulky SUVs, but I can see that as long as EV batteries take up a lot of space, it is the bulky SUV shape that suits EVs currently being built.

I'm just rebuilding/refreshing the front suspension on my 2011 Audi S4 as I just can't see its replacement appearing in the near future, did the same to my wife's 2015 VW Polo 1.2TSI 110PS SEL last year for the same reason, I know that we will need to or be forced to move away from ICE to EV sometime, but for us, just not yet.
