1.4TDI, 1.9TDI, 1.416v, 1.616v or G40

Post by nuttinnew »

What engine to put in a '95 1300? Economy is of some importance hence my liking for the 1.4TDI (plus it doesn't go badly at all). A 1.9TDI should be a good balance but once chipped the in-gear would lead me to cane it and the mpg would fall (Autocar's vRS Fabia got as low as 24mpg....) The two 16v would be easier to find than the diesels, the G I have.

Suggestions and opinions please :D

the 1.4 3 pot diesel is a damn pokey little engine.

A friends mildly tuned (exhaust, filter, dump valve and chip) was dicking Lupo GTis at Santa Pod

Economy is pretty vital tbh, with my current financial situation* 40mpg on the daily grind is fairly necessary.

* They may not make sense when talking of an engine transplant but I'd probably sell the G to finance t'other engine.

KarlM, that's the type o'shizzle I'm talking about; still get cheaper tax and easy on the insurance being simply a newer Polo engine and not a sporty one at that.

Ideally I'd find a rear ended mk5 TDI so I could have the engine on the subframe to make fitting easier but I haven't found a breakers yet that's ever had one :(
