Karl's CL Coupe *Update*

Post by Karl_CLCoupe »

I have owned this car now since the 2nd of March. Unfortunately the furthest I've driven it, was to turn it around in the drive, as I'm still needing the L-plates.

Image
Here it is in standard guise

Since then I have half coded the bumpers (with mesh in vent in front bumper), fitted clear indicators, smoked side repeators, chrome door handle inserts, black VW badges front and rear, switched the 'Polo_CL' badge for a 'Polo' badge and fitted 13" x 6J BBS RAs with 185/60/R13 rubber. Further plans include fitting a Golf Mark3 lower spoiler and colour-coding it, as well as fitting a Kamei grille spoiler and getting the rear grab handle colour-coded. Eventually I hope to have the mirrors colour-coded and the boot spoiler too. Rounding up the exterior I would also like to fit OEM foglights and GT/G40 arch trims and sills.

Inside I have changed the standard 3 spoke steering wheel for a chunkier 3 spoke wheel from The Polo GT/G40, Ripspeed mats (with chequerplate on drivers mat), Sparco 'Racer X' gear knob, Ripspeed tax disc holder and a Ripspeed cigar lighter. Compleing the interior I would like to bring more colour in (possibly colour coding the heater surround, ash tray and interior door handles in silver). May go full G40 interior, however, I'm considering losing the rear bench and building a flase floor at some point.

Ice is currently a Sony MiniDisc headunit powering 2 6.5" Pioneer speakers mounted in the parcel shelf, with an additional 2 custom fit 6"x 4" Pioneer speakers mounted beside the parcel shelf and standard dashborad speakers. Plans here include the addition of a Sony X-Plod amp and Pioneer sub with some Magnat 3.5" speakers lined up to replace the dashboard speakers. Ideally I would like some Audioscope speaker pods for the doors to house some 6.5" speakers there.

Mechanically the car remains standard due to insurance costs for a 17 year old, however that hasn't stopped me tidying up the engine bay. I have fitted some braided hose covers, and am awaiting a polished rocker cover, polished heatshield and polished distrubutor cap cover. Eventually I want to fit some bonnet lifters and an induction kit.

More updates to come, as I finish my want list...

*Update 01/11/04*

Since my last update, I have Gone delocked on passenger door handle (thanks madmatt and metz), and the all important mod: an induction kit. Sounds really good with light throttle response. Wouldn't mind an alloy induction pipe to replace the Passat rubber one that came with the airbox.

Once I have the GT/G40 arches and sills I will be pretty content with the way the car looks outside after some additional colour-coding and OE foglights. The plan in the future is to drop it. Thinking of a 60mm drop all round, though may consider 40 at the back, 60 up front.

Finally here are some new pics (thanks to the cameraman):

Here's the induction kit (I know I have the hot air feed going to it, but with a number of cases of people saying their car is cutting out in cold weather, I thought it would make sense for the winter months...)

More updates as more gets done...
