today my car went in for a service at the main dealer. ok ok dont laugh, it was a freebie from vw for all the hassle they have caused me.
well anyway i dropped the car off and everything was fine, when i picked it up the drivers key lock will no longer open the car. it will lock it but i have to use the passenger side to open the doors. the garage wont admit fault and i carnt prove it. how do i fix it?. the key feels like it is no longer catching the lock to spin the doors open. there is no whir of motor.
thanks
matt
driver door lock broke?
Hey Matty,
I hope you've sorted this problem out already, I saw that there was no posting in response, I'm not exactly qualified to help or advice but thought, at a last resort you could have a look yourself, well take the handle off and see if it makes any difference.
Have you contacted customer services? Give them a call and see what they can do for you, doesn't place much faith in the dealers if you take the car in and they return it to you in a worse state than when it went in!
Wish you good luck with it mate. Let us know what happens!

i did ring vw customer care and they rang the dealer for me. they gave them the same lies that i had been given, that the damage was done before i dropped the car off.
ufortunately customer care are stuck because they carnt see the car, and to be honest they have been very understanding so far. she did recommend i speak to the owner, which i did. when i spoke to the garage again i was given aload of rubbish about their prices being lower than standard vw servicing costs etc etc. i wasnt interested - they were trying to aviod the point.
as such my door lock i broke and i have no proof. the fact is that there was nothing wrong with it in the 4 years i have had the car and the garage have it for 6 hours and now it doesnt work.
i have 2 theories
1. they used the wrong key and broke the lock
2. it had an attempted break in whilst it was in their car park.
they wont admit the first and have no cctv so i am not going to get anywhere.
therefore i am looking at a remote central locking upgrade unless i can figure out how to mend the lock without taking it to a vw dealership.
i did get chance to sl4g them off when the research chap rang up for my comments on the service
cheers
matthew
p.s. can i name the garage? i dont want to get banned from this site but people should know who to avoid.

I had a Polo door lock break a while back. Turned out to be the 'paddle' which connects the key lock to the actual door mechanism. I managed to fix it myself, the new part costing only £1.50 ish from VW main dealer.
It is a slightly fiddly job, and involves re-setting a spring inside the lock.
If you got a local garage to look at it, it may be cheaper than the cost of getting remote locking.
