Those alarms aren't worh a p***! there are crap u will get more protection from a big sticker saying come and nick me!

If you want a good alarm wiv central remote locking go with clifford or toad they cost more but they will keep ur motor safe!

And don't tell give you a discount if when renewing you insurance and you tell them you have a Thatcham Cat 1 alarm...depending on which alarm you choose...but I thought we were talking about remote centre locking not alarms...although I guess they are linked in some way...blah blah blah, think I'm talking poo now so I'll just sign off shall I?

locking

Post by jon_poloV »

rhodey you need to have central locking then add a cliffod or a toad allarm to have remote cental locking. if you just got a clifford or toad it would remotely disarm the alarm but not remotly open the locks. also any alarm is better than no alarm

locks

o rite all crossing wires here so you have centrall lock at mo, but just not remotly operated.
some polos dont have central locking with turn of key, all locks need key to open close etc.

i get your points tho. getting a remote without an alarm might be a bad move. i will check out prices of alarms that activate the central locking as well.

cheers

Mine was fitted by JG bestwick in derby. Its a Metasystem alarm. Cost 159 fitted, and closes the windows for me as well as locks unlocks etc. It works so well, you can forget its not standard. You can even configure it to lock your doors automatically when driving which can be a good feature, I tend to do that in Birmingham.

They are on the web, and they fitted it in just a couple of hours. Used them before twice!

I'm sure they installed one of those Metasystem alarms on the Project Lupo of PVW magazine. It sounds like a good system considering the features it offers, I like the auto-locking feature after driving off...wish I could have it on our factory fitted central locking, I heard that it might be possible but not seen anyone actually getting it to work.

Yes, the metasystem can be attached to comfort close features and automatic door locking. They don't charge extra for this and they have done it before, they know, me, the silver mk5. I have the complete diagrams for that alarm too, so you can fiddle with with it afterwards. LIke I said, you wouldn't know that its not factory fitted! I love using the barrier to come in to work then getting out of the car and it winds its own windows up etc. Well cool.

One word of warning though..... The window closure has a sensor to stop it choping your hand off etc. But when using the remote to lock it, it by-passes this, which is probably why VW don't do it by default.

See http://www.jgbestwickltd.co.uk/ and then speak to the black guy he really knows his stuff.

hi james

spoke to the shop today and they recommend the sigma s4 for £170. this is the blurb they gave me

A system such as a Sigma S4 has twin remote controls, perimeter protection and interior ultra-sonic sensors. An LED shows the system is armed.Depending on the age of your car, if it doesn't have an in-built immobiliser, we would also connect an immobiliser circuit.

The remotes operate the alarm, but will also lock and unlock your car central locking as requested.

cheers
