1.4 TDI 75BHP - MY05 - Drum Brakes

Hey,

I've just ordered a 1.4 TDi Twist and am rather concerned about the possibility of it having drum brakes after reading an earlier post

Is this confirmed? If so how are people who have them getting on with them - whats braking like?

Is it possible to change the brakes to discs?

mine has discs.. but it's 2 years old so an early edition dunno if that has changed since then

I ordered a 1.4 TDi Twist about two months ago - estimated delivery is end of this month. Three month wait for factory orders. If I had known it was going to take this long I would have seriously considered getting a used one

Whats the delivery time quoted for your order?

Looking through the brochures and website - it looks like anything with 75ps or lower are fitted with rear drum brakes. I'd be interested to know if there are any practical differences for day to day use.. and if its cheap/easy to change to disc brakes aswell.

yes the 75hp and under models will have rear drum brakes. (makes me feel slightly better

)

3 months?

or did you opt for many options?

mine was straight from the factory with few factory options and took 10 weeks.

Mine should be about 2 weeks. I went in to the dealers last friday and asked them to get me any 3dr twist 1.4 tdi that wasn't yellow they could get as soon as possible.

Starting to regret it now - I know the polo is the car I want but I'm not sure about Indigo Blue with the unpainted bumper strips, drum brakes, and difficulty getting rear speakers in. Unfortunately the engines seized on my old car and I need a new one asap.

Starting to to thinking about spending the extra dosh to get an SE and kill of my worries about the bumber strips and rear speakers and I'd get the cool flick out key. Surely thats worth an extra grand or so:D

There is a post in the Chassis forum discussing replacing the drums with disks but it sounds too much for me, causes problems around ABS. Maybe should start saving for a full on porsche brake conversion

At the time they couldnt source any 5dr 1.4 TDi in silver in the UK, so I went and added loads of options instead - remote alarm + rear leccy windows, body color pack, height adj seats, mfc, leather trim steering wheel and speaker upgrades (hopefully this will take care of speakers in the back). 10 weeks is roughly 2 and half months, so 3 months sounds about right with the holidays eating up two of them.

At the time I hadnt got a license yet, and thought it would be better to wait a little and get the specs I wanted. Im kinda regretting not going for the quickest option too now, I passed my test in november and been itching to drive ever since. Indigo Blue looks okay, I think all twists come with either Metallic or pearl effect paint so you would have avoided yellow in anycase

The rear drum brakes will probably not make much difference to braking performace - lets face its were not going to be stressing them with 75ps

. Bumper strip colors down to personal preference really, I bet some people find black strips a nice contrast. No rear speakers is annoying, particular if theres no wiring in place for you to put your own in easily.

SE doesnt come with metallic/pearl effect paint or alloys, which are probably a tad cooler than the flip out key. If I hadnt just spent almost 8k on a parking space, I would probably have gone for the Sports which has the lot.

ANY polo 9n can be opted with color coded bumperstrips, handles, and mirrors. its only Â£80 extra. upgrading to a SE model only gives you cc'd mirrors and door handles, so the bumper strips (all 4 of them) are still black.

Gonna do my front speakers, Head unit and Multichanger myself. Then I'll decide if I want to pay someone to do the rear speakers, do it myself or go for a sub instead

Unfortunately because the car I've bought is already built and somewhere on ship over here so i can't add any factory options. The dealer could have gotten an SE for me but quoted me 2.5k more than the twist for it!!!

So its settled! Get the twist, get a chrome front grill, chrome bee sting arial,, chrome number plate surrounds, chrome the wing mirrors alla s3(maybe), eibach springs and install my ICE and I'll be satisifed for a little while hopefully.

wai mak's 9n has quite a bit of chrome on it....i think?!
