MK4 -> Mk5 roof strips guide by speedlaw

Post by cinder »

Hi All

I followed speedlaws guide about changing the roof strips on the car, or at least made an effort to change them, the problem acured when i was to purchace the mk5 strips. This part is not sold in norway for the polo! WTF? and another thing the guy told me the mk5 window screen would not fitt eighter. So now i need some advice from experts. What model polo does those metal roof strips come from and does that front window fitt or not?

alex

They don't sell the strips? That's odd. I got mine from a scrapyard, but I am absolutely positive the strips *are* sold seperately at all VW dealerships. But, Norway could be different. Perhaps it helps if you try a different dealership, and ask them nicely (pretty please with sugar on top).

Now, the window, that takes a bit of effort. My glass company didn't believe me either; saying 'two models, two different part numbers, they won't fit, quit bothering me.' I just kept pressing him and they gave in; ordered the Mk5 window, tried it, said it won't fit. At this point my old window was already out of the car (and into the trash). Long story short, the boss came and had a look, I assured him it would fit, and we (me and him) tried the window again. After a bit of convincing and agreeing to having no warranty what-so-ever, they decided to glue it in place. It sits perfectly now.

Ergo: it takes some major sucking up, and persistance. I hear the Germans have it easier, but for us it takes effort.

Good luck!
