I have also noticed this when I visited a local VW dealer here in South Africa that there is no key lock on the boot handle of an entry level 1.4 Polo. VW must be very confident in the quality/reliability of their boot unlocking system. Or is this another cut in production costs :( or a security ...

Paying more for less.
Since 2006 VW South Africa has started to remove some comfort features from most Polo's and Polo Classics. One was the passenger seat height-adjusting feature with the under seat drawer, basically VW replaced the Comfortline passenger seat with the Trendline passenger seat. Next was the rear brake ...

Polo GTI paper+sponge air filter
Last week I went to a VW dealership to buy a new air filter for my 2006 Polo GTI, when the parts saleman handed me the air filter I opened the box and noticed that there was an additional sponge glued to the bottom of the paper air filter. The sponge is about 12mm thick and covers the whole bottom ...

CRUNCHING SYNDROME
I got the GTI back today. The service manager said they drained and changed the gearbox oil. They also replaced the clutch/brake fluid. I took it for a test drive and the gear changes are now very smooth even at 6500rpm. The brakes are also now more agressive.

The clutch only disengage when I press the pedal right down to the floor. I'm just wondering if there may be also vapour lock in the clutch/brake fluid system, because the brakes aren't that agressive.

I have driven my Polo GTI to 6200RPM while in 5th gear, the speedo needle was at about 235kph. I then reseted the avarage kilometers per hour on the onboard display which gave me a reading of 226kph true speed. I gues the error reading is about 5% because I was pulled over a while back by a traffic ...

I haven't done the pipe mod yet, but I did remove the air deflector with a pencil grinder. Previously my GTI would only go to about 5500 revs in top gear, but after the mod it went to 6200 revs/226kph as indicated on the LCD display of the trip computer. So there is definately more air being forced ...
