Grinding/scraping noise

My 6R Polo has developed a certain grinding or scraping noise somewhere from the front left when accelerating from a complete stop.It happens intermittently and only for a few seconds.

Suggestions, thoughts, remedies?

I didn't really think about it being the exhaust, but I guess it is a possibility. One more thing I should have explained is that this particular noise seems to come and go as I accelerate and slow down and seems to be coming from the rear left side.

Howling noise from the back of Polo

Recently I've noticed a howling or whining noise coming from the back of my 6N2, most noticeable at speeds betweem 60-80 KPH (37-50mph). It's definetly not coming from the tyres as I changed tyres and still the same problem. I'm thinking rear wheel bearings, but I welcome your opinions or ideas on ...
