My rear wiper on my 1989 polo c has just died a slow death, ie. it actually slowed down to a very slow wipe and then a couple of days later just quit. There is still a clicking noise from what I assume must be the relay or something from under the glovebox area.
Anyone got any ideas on what is up, also the rear demister has never worked since I got it but then the car only cost me £50.00 and it's amazing.
I just fitted some ranger roof rails that I got from a scrappie for £5.00 and it's the ultimate utility vehicle. Nervous moments however before drilling four 1" diameter holes in the roof though!
rear wiper fault
Open the boot lid and on the top left hand side there's a rubber boot where the wires pass into the tailgate for the wiper motor and demister ciruit etc.
When my demister didnt work it turned out that the constant opening & closing of the boot had taken its toll on the wiring and the plastic insulation to some of the wires had perished, split and come away completely and on the other wires it was slightly more extreme as the wires had just completely snapped
i replaced the damage section of wiring and left plenty inside the tailgate for movement etc. Now all is well.
NB. inside the car the wires pass down the rear corner pillar into the boot where they can be accessed though the hole used to get at the rear light cluster.
Good luck
