Cambelt Quote

Post by ModifiedMadness »

I went to VW earlier and got a quote for the cambelt to be done (he said there's 2 belts and 2 tensioners?) which would be £405.95 incl parts and labour etc. but without the water pump.

He said that the price would only increase by however much the water pump is.

Also the 60K service is £202.65.

I'm having my 54k service due in the next week or so, and im guessing its probably safe to get the belts changed now. But when i was searching through the service book earlier it had a tick next to "toothed belt change" then a comment saying "both belts", that was at 34k. you reckon that would be it?

(sorry tom lol)

Sounds like your belts have already been done man.
If in doubt call the garage that stamped your book for piece of mind. :D

I got mine done at 60k by one of my mates at his work, went to vw for parts and he fitted them :D :D

May well be, as Richard says the best bet is to either give the garage that done it a bell or your local VW dealer should be able to check on their computer.

on accelerating there a slight tapping that increases when pulling away... plugged it in to vag com and the cam shaft position sensor flagged an error so was assuming this was because belts are loose and tensioners going...

i think you would be better off getting the parts from vag parts and then getting either your dealer or a specialist to fith them, will be cheaper

£255?! I got the same £405 quote as Modified :?

And I was quoted £190 for the 60k service - so there's something going on. I thought VW had a flat rate policy on dealer servicing charges?

It's not just me then

I'll just get them to do the lot, but before the service otherwise I'll be paying £608 in one hit.

Luckily the money isn't a problem but it's just a lot in one go.
