Picked up the car - few issues tho.

Picked up the car after work today. Running well and no main problems.

However looking thu the service recipts that came with it, at the 50k mile one says in the advice section...

1. Cam belt needs replacing as has cracks in it - no problem as I plan this anyhow.

2. Rear shock absorber leaking (leaking what??) and recomend replacement pair - has anyone one else had this and done it - whats the cost?

3. Throttle housing contaminated with oil - requires cleaning- can I just blast it myself with carb cleaner or will this goose the temp sensor? I dont want to make it worse. Can I do this with the engine of and a cloth rather than while its being reved?

4. Distributor cap & rotor arm burnt/worn - whats this all about and is it nothing to worry about?

All this is fron a VW main dealer @ 50,000 miles.

cleaning the top of the throttle body is fine, i blasted carb cleaner into it to clean the guts too and had no problems, but some people have knackered their temp senders doing this.

if you reach round the back you find the cable that activates the butterfly valve so you can open and close it and spray at the same time

did you spray the carb cleaner whilst the engine was cold or warm? or does it not matter (im unsure about doing this by reading about other peoples experiences with high idles and messing the temp sensors)

me too. Bought some cleaner today from halfords. To be honest theres nothing wrong with the car so not desperate to do it. On the other hand I worry about things like this so am keen to get it cleaned!

it was kind of warm then revving it inbetween for a bit before discovering the cable to operate the butterfly would mean the engine was warm while i was doing it

u can easily buy new rotar arms an there pish easy 2 fit, this all depends on the spark gettin 2 the engine an if urs is worn then ur not gonna get a nice start an ur car mite not run aswell
