More Idle Issues...

Post by Stacey_K »

Since my last post the car now starts fine, the problem now is that the car revs itself at junction. The worst thing is that it now seems to increasingly stutter alot while driving, feels like when u let go and re-apply the throttle during driving.

Upon inspecting the throttle body today i noticed that the small rubber pipe connected to the bottom of the air box has a hole in it and the rubber is not in good shape. So im guessing this is the 'oil breather' pipe i have read about in other posts, if so could this be causing my idle symptoms (save me getting a throttle body), and where do i order a replacement....thanks in advance...

what size is the pipe?

the oil breather pipe is normally quite big (approx 20mm outer diameter?), and I'm not sure that a knackered breather pipe would affect your idle. it could be the vacumn pipe though, they're quite a bit thinner than the breather pipe.

top of the hose fits over plastic pipe at bottom on air box (i'd guess around 1-2cm in diameter)...Cant get at the other end, but it looks wider. Soz i havent got a haynes or anything to inspect...any links to online images??

Sorry guys but im getting a bit confused and just want to make sure i get the right pipe from VW...

The airbox only seems to have 3 holes, 1: the large plastic air intake, 2: the round seal that sits over the butterfly valve and 3: the pipe i need to replace... So soz to waste anyones time and look an idiot but from what i can see it can only be either the oil breather OR the vacuum pipe and from the feedback im getting it could be either but i only see one pipe. Sorry if this doesnt make much sense, thought it might be the oil breather as it looks like old dirty oil inside maybe, but hoping it might be the vacuum pipe as this could solve my problems...

Any help or p*** taking this way please....

you should have these pipes connecting to your airbox, aside from the 'air in' pipe, of course.

Thanks for the pic, well its def the oil breather pipe that has the hole, but on a more worrying note the vacuum pipe is not connected up???? Hasnt been for a while. When replacing the airbox a while back i checked for any missing pipes and didnt see it, I cant check(fix) now as the misses has taken her to work 2nite....

Just taken the air box off, no vacuum pipe to be seen like in the pic posted...Plus the airbox doesnt seem to be missing any pipes...Its a 1.4 8v.

Am i missing something obvious here?? Cheers for the help
