strut brace question

Post by Jeff GTi »

im looking at getting upper and possibly lower braces for my polo gti

can anyone tell me what differences they have noticed from fitting

is one more effective than the other?

do they give noticable changes in steering feel or anything else?

cheers

Hey jeff
I got an upper forge strut brace fitted to my gti. Good quality and easy to fit but does mean taking it off again to change air filter. Once fitted my car is certainly more positive through corners, but understeer happened a bit sooner so i fitted a jabba rear arb and it works a treat now. I am running standard suspension as where i live has loads of speed bumps. I would think with your suspension set up the strut braces would work a treat. Where have you found to supply lower front brace?

So is there a big difference fitting an upper strut brace Guv? I also only have standard suspension on my gti and find it very poor handling around corners, wasnt sure if the strut brace would make a great deal of a difference?

If the mounting points are same on the 9N and 9N3 would anyone be tempted in a group buy? It sounds like a few of us would be interested.

I only really notice a difference when pushing it. The front end feels marginaly tighter at low speeds but nothing major. I fitted the rear arb quite soon after the brace so didnt do too many miles with just brace on. The front brace and rear arb combo i got seems to suit my driving style well though. For best results i need to get a better suspension set up, but i dont want to lower it. Was thinking koni fsd?

koni fsd's are naff, i had them on my red polo gti, combined with eibach springs which are only 25 ish mm lowering springs the car only dropped 5 mm

so with standard springs they will indefinately raise the car if anything

and it felt no different to the std shockers

still wallowy and floppy

No, Jeff had another 1.8t Polo GTI before this one.

You can also buy a SEAT Sport strut brace from SEAT dealers for the mk4 Ibiza that will probably also fit the Polo, and it's only about £40 - £50.

If you know someone with a mk4 Ibiza nearby it would be worth checking the measurements. I know it's a direct fit on the Fabia so the Polo probably is too (?)

These strut braces often come up for sale on seatcupra.net and briskoda

Yeh the Ibiza strut brace is a direct fit onto the 9n Polo chassis as I have one fitted to my GTI.
