Hid kit

Post by Arnoldo »

Ok seriously thinking about gettin an HID kit. Just looking some advice. Has anyone had any problems off the local police with theirs? Also does it produce more heat, causing it to melt the headlights? If I used the HID kit with the gti headlight covers. Would there be much more beam distortion?

Cheers in advance lads :)

There's a hid pic thread around here somewhere.

They produce less heat then halogen bulbs so no heat problems. I wouldn't go higher than 6000k with the colour to keep them low key

Myself I went the whole way and got a set of GTI headlights (i haven't fitted washers or self-levelling) They're amazing :D but expensive

Just my opinion, I don't think you should get them. I remember seeing a video by Auto Express that showed that HID's without the appropriate projector units had caused a lot of glare in other road users. I don't see much wrong with the standard halogen units really. I guess it's just a look thing, but there are many things I'd rather spend my money on.

Edit; here you go:

Some food for thought.

Mine are mk5 ones with just HIDs and they dont cause glare - nobody flashes me at all. Beam pattern is slightly out, but it passed an MOT so it cant be that bad!!

They are perfectly fine mate, the thing in auto express is with an older car with out Light projectors in the head lights, which MK5's have, this is your beam patteren/distortion, if it aint got them, then it can cause problems mate, but the MK5's have,

As for trouble with the police, what are they going to charge you with, there are standard cars with HID's that are Bright as f**k and its fine, lights ona car Must be white or yellow at the front and not blue for obvious reasons. But as i said can be as bright as you want them to be as long as they dont cause dazzle to oncoming Vehicles. Trust me i know, I work for the Police and have talked to the traffic about it.

As for them not being any better, unless you have had a shot in a car with both HID and Halogen you will notice the difference tenfold mate, they make so much difference. My advice is go with them, You'd be after the H7 kit buddy. Well worth a buy in my opinion!!!

Are the light projectors not the wee circular things you see in angel eyes? If so standard mk5's havent got them :S

Few more questions for ya see as you answered all of the above so quickly :D Are they easy to fit? What tools do you need? Is everything supplied with most of the kits you get out there? E.g do I have to join wires etc or is it plug and play? What kit should I go for? Alex off the site has told me about "HIDs4u.co.uk" and the discount. Is that the best one to get for the money?

Phew....

Thanks again lads :P

£125 off "HIDs4u.co.uk". Delivery seems to be free. The colour on them are 5000K. Is that bright or is there much better out there? What can u get them for?

HIDs4U is 6000K or any other K you require - they have loads of options, just have to specify when ordering :P And the cost if paid by debit card is £105 (save an extra 5%). Youve got a two year warranty with excellent customer service to back that aswell! Delivery is free to clarify

Next day replacement of parts, free installation support and all that including the kitchen sink!

Theyre also TUV stamped and E4 marked :D
