Hid kit
Hid kit
Ok seriously thinking about gettin an HID kit. Just looking some advice. Has anyone had any problems off the local police with theirs? Also does it produce more heat, causing it to melt the headlights? If I used the HID kit with the gti headlight covers. Would there be much more beam distortion?

There's a hid pic thread around here somewhere.
They produce less heat then halogen bulbs so no heat problems. I wouldn't go higher than 6000k with the colour to keep them low key
Myself I went the whole way and got a set of GTI headlights (i haven't fitted washers or self-levelling) They're amazing
but expensive

Just my opinion, I don't think you should get them. I remember seeing a video by Auto Express that showed that HID's without the appropriate projector units had caused a lot of glare in other road users. I don't see much wrong with the standard halogen units really. I guess it's just a look thing, but there are many things I'd rather spend my money on.

Some food for thought.

They are perfectly fine mate, the thing in auto express is with an older car with out Light projectors in the head lights, which MK5's have, this is your beam patteren/distortion, if it aint got them, then it can cause problems mate, but the MK5's have,
As for trouble with the police, what are they going to charge you with, there are standard cars with HID's that are Bright as f**k and its fine, lights ona car Must be white or yellow at the front and not blue for obvious reasons. But as i said can be as bright as you want them to be as long as they dont cause dazzle to oncoming Vehicles. Trust me i know, I work for the Police and have talked to the traffic about it.
As for them not being any better, unless you have had a shot in a car with both HID and Halogen you will notice the difference tenfold mate, they make so much difference. My advice is go with them, You'd be after the H7 kit buddy. Well worth a buy in my opinion!!!
