Hey, my car is a 3 pot 1.2

But I've never been sure if it's a 55bhp or a 65bhp

how can I find out for sure, without going to a dealership? Or would I have to go to one and get them to look it up from my reg?

I would suggest you call VW Customer Services and ask them? They can tell you lots about your car. Just need to give them the chassis or VRM.

You either go into a VW dealer parts place and ask nicely if it would be possible for them to print you out a car data sheet(s) - you will need to give them your reg number, these data sheets will give you quite a lot of information. Or you look on the front page of the service book thing (engine output will be in KW or on the label stuck inside the spare wheel well will give the same information. By the way, the engine output is usually quoted in PS so not exactly BHP, if you check up on the VW website you should see what the relationship between KW and PS are and so work out which engine you have.

my scanner doesn't want to work, but in the service book it says:

AWY
GER
LO41
AU

in section 3, which is where gearbox code, paint number, interior equiptment, engine power, engine code are supposed to be

so which is it? because that's nonsense to me.

AWY is most definitely the engine code for the 1.2 55 PS engine if that helps

Surely not a 6V in this day and age? I would expect it would be a 12V...though I stand to be corrected what with VWs cost cutting these days

I don't really see the link between 6v vs 12v and cost cutting. I'd have thought it would be to do with the range of engines available and what suits the needs of the market the engine is aimed at, including lower insurance and probably some cheaper parts too.

you can complain all you like about cost-cutting, but we're the ones who moan about expensive cars, and if you wanted it so badly you'd have bought the more expensive version anyway
