Alarm Help
Good day Mr Toad,
I have, in the past, added a home made immobiliser to my cars (old cars and not Polos) by interrupting the 12v feed to the HT coil and taking this to a switch which I hide in the car somewhere. If the switch is open, no 12 v to coil so no HT and the sparkplugs cannot spark. This has saved my own car three times and my wife and daughter's cars at least once each. We have found that most alarm companies tend to put their override switches in the same place or in places the car thieves know about.
However, a family friend has asked me to fit this type of switch in her VW Polo 2007 model (1.4). But the engine is a lot more modern than the old types mentioned above and, although I can obviously trace the spark plug leads back to what I assume is an electronic distributor, I cannot find anything that looks like the old traditional HT coil.
Is there an HT coil in the new Polo? and where is it? If there is, is it safe to install one of my switches? If there is no traditional HT coil, is there some where that I can interrupt a voltage line which will achieve the same result?
Thanks
Best Regards
Mark

Dont go into ignition wires on new cars can upset ecu's put lights on and alsorts
Best is cut fuel pump wire or relay and ad relay in to switch
safest way

AI606 will have a short brown wire coming outantonio_king wrote:hey MR_TOAD... great topic!
I have a mk4 and Toad Ai606 alarm. Was wondering what cable should use from the alarm to get the horn going off with the alarm? and to what colour cable and where should I connect it to?
Cheers!
this give small pos feed when alarm is going off enough to run a relay to give power to horn

Hey Mr Toad,
i have a 6n 16v polo with central locking + immobilizer, the locking distance seems very poor (about 4ft!) and somewhat weak. i was going to change the batteries on the remote, but after reading a post where someone had a similar problem, they changed the batteries and it packed in all together - id rather avoid this! i was wondering if you knew if the poor locking distance was normal or if there is anything i can do to increase it - shy of fitting a whole new alarm etc.
cheers,
sam.

It is a Logic 850/950 lock, immobilizer and alarm system -
Also, the boot no longer operates with the remote and has to be unlocked/locked manually. Any ideas?
Thanks again.
