Miltek cat back

Post by Grapo »

Whats the bonus of a Miltek cat back over the standard system? Noticed a few people praising Miltek, especially Jeff, however these may be full systems. The original GTI exhaust looks and sounds awesome so would there be any benefit from a cat back only Miltek system?

cat back you realistically only benifit from the sound mate, maybe a tiny smidge of power change due to the wider bore of the milltek

its replacing the full system including the cat and downpipe like i have that the gains become noticable,

the best way to describe the full system is a semi re map again, really adds to throttle response and mid range

Like Jeff says cat back makes no real gains... read somewhere that apr made cat back and gained no more power.

The standard cat back exhaust is supposed to be quite good... lets face it its noisey enough.. so cant be that bad...

Downpipe though is crap.... great big flange to turbo and a tiny pipe connected to flange.. then gets thinner at the bend... then has to go through a standard cat......

Get custom downpipe and high flow cat mated to existing exhaust - read that some GTi guys have gained good HP from this alone.

Pipewerx can do this for £450 ish... all done and fitted.

If you were to get a custom S/S turbo back you would still need a sprts cat fitted. Do miltek sell these seperate or can anyone recommend any??

You can get the second Lambda probes mapped out, they are only there to allow the ecu to monitor the health of the cat and adjust fuelling to keep it within limits.

You will get problems if you remove the cat and let the second lambda see normal pre cat readings as the ECU will limp mode.

I have had my MK4 2.8 24v ECU mapped to phase 2 by custom-code and they removed the Secondary lambdas (there are two on that engine!!)

Okay cheers guys.

The reason I asked about the cat back was that I got offered the chance for Miltek to design a cat back system for the Polo GTI and they needed a car to design it on. I have refused the offer as I am completely happy with the standard exhaust.

G though if you were to take up their offer you could chip in towards their downpipe/cat and get it fitted at the same time.

Ask them?

I had thought about that. I'm just going to get a remap, not worried about uprating other engine/exhaust parts really.

Why would I want a cat back that offers nothing more than standard? It will most likely be a rubbish fit looking at some of the guys on here with Miltek systems!

It wouldna look rubbish as they would be designin it for the polo. The ones u have seen are the exhaust designed for the ibiza, thats why they need a polo to design a new one. And just pay for them to do the turbo to cat since their doin the cat back? Or maybe they'll do the full think?
