coilover height adjustment

Post by kipper »

this has been bugging me now for some time and thought id even try to redo it today.

my driver side rear coilover dont seem to wanna lower. i lowered the spring about an inch today and was hoping it would do the trick and then took it for a drive around my block over about 20 speed bumps and back to my house and was hoping that would fix it but it hasnt.

as far as im ware the other 3 are ok its just this one......

i got them second hand of someoen so cant really complain to them about it.

theyre evo ones........ n e one know wat the problem is? would it need to be taken apart and rebuilt or something?

Is it the bits that you adjust with the C spanner that wont go up mate?

Im sure if u take it off and have a good luck at it in ur hands and get some piccys we will be able to help you.

Just sounds like it might be a bit siesed/stubborn if it hasnt been adjusted for a while

not totally sure wat u mean but when i lowered the nut that heightens the spring down about an inch, i put the wheel back on and dropped it back on the ground and the height was still the same despite the fact i lowered the nut to lower the spring........ make more sense now?

You need to get some pics mate

You turn a circular piece of metal with a C spanner to raise or lower suspension, not a nut?

thsi is the only pic i have for now not sure if this helps u tho.

basically when i lowered the nuts the gap between the wheel and the arch were the same as when i didnt lower it. altho i think it has lowered itself a bit more today so wat i might do is try to lower it again when im of work and leave it for a while and see wat happens.

unless u have n e other ideas?

Yeh leave it for a few days mate. I've found this with mine a few times, and patience was the only key really.

That and driving round hard with someone sat on that rear side.

well i have noticed that it seems to lower itself more so looks like tomorrow ill be lowering it more and getting the height right.

also another question, if i have all the coilovers the sme height i.e all front and rear spring adjuster nut things are the same height from the bottom will the arch gap be the same on the front and back or does the front have to be lower then the back?

Don't measure from the adjustor nut to the end of the coil mate, it won't be correct.

Instead measure from the adjustor ring to the bottom arm, that will give you a proper measurement.

The coils will sit lower on the rear I found

I'm not 100% sure it's the technical term, but it's whats conencted to the hub.

So it's a measurement taken from something off the car, not the suspension.

ok. well i lowered it anyway using the original method if marking a stick. basically putting one end of the stick ont he bottom of the arch in the middle, putting a mark where i want the top of the rim to be then emasuring the distance between the lines and lowering the coilie by that much, then obviously wanting the rim the same height on the other wheel so again measuring the distance it needs to be lowered by etc etc etc.

so far it does look low but think i will have to remeasure as they dont soom low enough and cant remember if i changed it or not.

also i wanna sort my bumpers out so im getting second hand front and rear bumper of ebay, and then gonna smooth then and then get them sprayed at a body shop.

was thinking, does anyone have n e pics of the 6n2 polo standard bumper with the 2 outer grills smoothed? am thinking of doing this but wanna have a look if n e one has done it yet so i can see wat it looks like..........

and befor n e one says it yes, i know the driver side has the hole for the break down tow ring.
