HID Main Beam

Does anyone know if I will be able to put a set of hids in the main beam? I know people have done it to there fogs and have melted the lens. I have them for dipped with no trouble. I do most of my driving at night and am sick of the difference between the high and low beam lol

Are the dipped and full beams in the same lens?

dipped beam are in the big circle, and the full are in the small circle. so i think you'll be able to do them.

I see, well yeh they should be made out of the same plastic. so I would've thought they'd be fine if the dipped beams are.

They should fine. Generally you don't really have your full beams on for more than a few minutes, if that.

Main reason why a lot of manuafactuers dont use HID's for main beams is that because you flick them on and off frequenly the bulbs dont heat up quick enough to emmit maximum light, and they wound blind oncoming traffic if you failed to dip them in time.

Renault got round this by using a shutter system rather than a second bulb to change the level of the lights.

The HIDs emit a bright flash upon being turned on, so they are fine for flashing. They then reduce down and take time to build to full brightness.

I've got some in mine and simply love them. Yeh they'd blind omcoming traffic, but jsut be sensible with them.

I thought that the big deal with factory fit HIDs was that normally they were only fitted to the dipped beam, reasons being that - they were brighter and had a longer beam and also that the life of HIDs when used for flashing was very short . I've got HIDs (factory fit) on my B5 Passat and have no problems during running at night - the main beam seems to fill in the extra required field depth pretty well. The original "dual HIDs" or BI-HIDs were as said just one HID source clipped with a shutter for dipped beam running and raised shutter for full beam as well as supplimented with a filament light fitting which was used on its own for flashing.

No doubt that's the case. But at the end of the day, I've got factory fitted HID dipped beams and retro fit HID full beams and they work great

When I fit them I will just be ignorant and not flash anyone lol. I just donâ€™t like the yellow light you get off the main beam and as we have a discount code for hids4u I might as well use it
