Factory Central Locking Playing Up?

Post by Andy1.6 »

My central locking is playing up, sometimes doesn't work properly, sometimes does.

Does anyone have any advice on how I can fix it?

Cheers

does it always "whirr" when you use it? if it doesn't then the pump needs replacing. if the pump is OK then there may be a leak somewhere in the pipes so best to have a quick root around and see if you can see any leaks. My guess is the pump is on its way out - look on eBay for a new one.

Yes the pump does whirr, and when it does work, it sounds as normal!

Its working again today, where should I look at the pipes? My car is fully stripped out at the moment, so shoudn't be too hard

Have you fitted mark5 rears? I fitted them not so long ago and as it was gettin dark pretty quick, i failed to realise that the mark5 rears didnt have a seal on them like the original mark4s. My central locking was playing up and only worked when it wanted. Then it stopped working all together with the fuel light coming on and not being able to get the cap open. I pulled the pump ut and took of the lid and you could clearly see where water had got in and blew a circuit on the board. carried out a temporary fix and it worked fine but didnt want to risk it so stuck a new pump in.

But if your central locking does pack in all together that the hose off the pump and suck/blow into it and this will open the locks to avoid what happenned to me at the petrol station.
