Car servicing

Post by coogee »

Morning all.
My Volkswagen polo 2001is in need of a gd service 77,000miles. Could any one advise me what needs replacing, etc., and is it something I can easily do. I have been quoted £70 for a private garage to complete the job excluding parts.
The cambelt was changed 3,000miles ago

Thanks in advance

Errrrm good service.......

Spark Plugs (go for Split Fire Triple Platinum last upto 100,000 miles)
Oil Change (go to a VW Dealers or halfords)
Oil Filter (go to VW or GSF or halfords)
Fuel Filter (go to VW or GSF)
Air Filter (go to VW or GSF or get a perforamance one)
Brake Fluid change IF the vehicles brake fluid has not been changed 2 years!
Check brake discs and pads to see if there is a resonable amount left.
Clean throttle body with some carb cleaner from halfords

that should have your car running perfect!

How difficult is it to change the air filter and all other filters, do I need to take off all the engine covering?

Sounds about right leads are more like £20 from the last two sets I have bought.

Don't forget the rotor arm! when doing the distributor.

Thanks for all the advice, also lately the car has not been starting straight away, for example when I go to start the engine only the starter motor spins and doesn’t engage would this be the spring that needs replacing. It does start 70% of the time but seems to be getting worse.

Thanks
