Hi
I think I'm going to ask a really dumb question - but then never mind here goes.
Are there any differences between the early GTi's (V/W/X plates) and the later Y and 51 plates?
I keep seeing 6N and 6N" around and my understanding is the early plates are 6N and the later 6N2.
Why are they different? Am I correct in remembering something about CO2 emissions and RF Tax?
Are there any cosmetic differences?
Also there was something about seatbelt colours - is this significant - mine are black with red trim.
Ooops sorry looks liked I've asked more than 1 question - I hope they're not all dumb.
Any Differences?

Right, in the UK, there is only a 6N2 GTi.
There were a VERY limited number of 6N GTi's made for the German Market towards the end of the 6N's life (1998-1999?).
So, we all have 6N2's. However there are some changes:
VERY early 6N2 GTi's apparently had a flat-spot in the rev range that was sorted out by replacing the ECU under warranty.
Early GTi's didn't have Traction or EDL as standard (thank god).
Later GTi's have a different engine code and are more emissions friendly
Some GTi's have all red seatbelts, some have all black and some have black with red stitching!
Some GTi's have all red HT Leads, others have red leads with black plug covers.
Later Silver GTi's use Reflex Silver, while earlier ones use the lush Satin Silver

Thanks guys - again very useful information.
I'd like to get the black badge for the front and my hubby is going to colour code the rear badge for me - I know it's not so bad on black but I'd still like it done.
My only plans at this stage would be to lower it a little.
What is the standard suspension like?
Any recommendations on "how low to go"?
Well 5 days to go and counting. I can't wait!

Girl, get some H&R -35mm Springs, or some H&R Coilovers. Either way, your car will be lower and it will handle MUCH better.
