Ive got the very first K&N induction kit made on my car as K&N used it for the development. It sits on top ot the engine though not at the end of a pipe. This Im told is due to the lack of space to feed any pipework up to it neatly. I love it though, gives a lovely noise under accelaeration.

if wrongly mounted, (ie sucking in hot air) will result in a power decrease!

induction kits on a 1.4 16v and the gti's give less power

let me explain, i had put my 16v on the rollers at uni (we have automotive section with a rolling road) for free and put the car on with a panel filter and then a k&n induction kit and found that the induction kit gave 6bhp less throughout the rev range.

its obvious that the induction kit will give less as the cone is at the back of the engine where all the hot air is.

before you ask yes i did have a cold air feed going to it.

also last year at the clubpolo rolling road day we had a mk5 gti with a panel filter go against a mk5 gti with a induction kit and the one with the panel filter kicked the other gti's arse.

the induction kits that tend to work are the BMC ones.

That may be right buyt I have the dyno's to prove the increased HP. I have pipework ducting the cold air to the engine aswell. They had it for two days and tried all kinds including panel filters. The one that is fitted gave the best results.

I'm thinking of mounting the filter at the front lhs of the engine bay (looking at the engine bay from the front) but I think it may be a whole world of hassle.

Anyone know what the k&n panel filter replacements are like?
