loose split rims

Post by metalblue »

I have a terrible noise from my driver side front wheel, just had both front wishbone replaced and noticed there is "play" between the 2 rims on the driver side front wheel...I am happy enough to torque up the rim bolts to see if that cures it but has anybody else had this? I'm pretty sure they will get loose again even if I can tighten them up and if it's going to be an on-going issue, not sure if it's better to just bite the bullet and buy new wheels

I am running on 16" 4x100 BBS split rims (from GTi Cab) with adjustable springs.

Do you know if they have been refurbished at some point? I've personally never heard of the centre coming away from the rim like that.

They should be torqued up to 30NM (22 lb ft). I'd also suggest using Loctite on the bolts as well.

thanks very much for the response...will give that a go and see how I get on....i don't know for sure but i would probably wager they have been refurbed at some point...given their condition and age....

it's definately the wheel making the noise, i have stuck my spare on and not a sound

Ah!

Is it the centre or the rim that has a split in it?
