Re: juddering
lol no the fuel filter filters the fuel
the oil filter filters the oil
so yes, two very different filters.
The waterpump shouldve been changed when you had your cambelt done - if it wasnt, then thats not a good sign.
Waterpump is a cambelt off job as its driven by the belt, so not a quick and easy task im afraid
Fuel filter should be once every 2 years and oil filter every 10k

Re: juddering
Get it done mate - its very cheap to do it too (though I recommend a VW filter or if you cant get that a MANN filter)
Yep Oil is a 10k or 12month service, but its best to do it every 10k to be safe whatever mileage as it keeps the engine tip top.

Re: juddering
no probs lol i saw it once on the back of a pug 206 and thought wtf - i just cant see the point but hey its a good laugh i guess.
Re: juddering
i spole to my godfather about doing my water pump so might see about buying that soon then and the fuel filter. do u know how much they'll be roughly? gonna do my gfs car to. gotta do the auxilary belt and oil filter and i think cam belt.
Re: juddering
went to gsf today and got the new fuel filter and water pump (metal one) and somehow the oem one is more expensive then the metal one..... how do they figure tha one out? or is it cause the metal one is for gsf?
the fuel filter cost £5.35 excluding vat and the water pump was £15.40 excluding vat. in total with vat it was £23.86

Re: juddering
fitted the fuel filter the other day which was fun.... they like putting things in awkward places dont they?
and today changed the water pump and auxillary belt. also noticed that 2 of my spark plug leads wernt on properly so pushed them on properly and think that might of sorted the judderign as well.
looking at the old water pump it looks fine and stuff so wondering if it got changed when my engine got rebuilt about 3 or so years ago.

Re: juddering
Hey guys ive read this thread and become quite curious. My Polo Gti is on 25k miles and it's had Cambelt/water pump done but its the breather pipes im interested in.I recently replaced the VW paper air filter for a green cotton panel filter which help with my juddereing (which touch wood isn't too bad).Im quite new to home mechanic but have alittle knoledge and am quite mechanically minded. What are the breather pipes?,not the cold air feed or oil breather pipes?.I quite want to give them a clean and get it flowing better.Any help would be greatly apprechiated.

Re: juddering
The breather pipe is the pipe that comes off the back of the block to stop the exhaust pressure getting too high to prevent gaskets from blowing. They get gunked up over time with an oily fuely substance which is pretty horrible, so its important to check they are clean every so often
Easiest way to clean them is to either used a bit of compressed air or something like a carb cleaner to dissolve the grime.

Re: juddering
Ah ok,have you got an image or anything to show me where exactly you mean?.I'd like to give it a good clean and see what happens.
Thanks for the quick reply.
