Temperature Light flashes

Post by polo_tdi »

Hi, I really need some help.
A few months back my 1.4 TDI polo overheated and the temperature light on the dash started to flash. after taking to the garage soon after, i was told the waterpump needed replacing, so i got that done.

temperature of the car now seems to be ok, but for some reason the temperature light on the dash starts to flash roughly 10mins after the car is started, having read this forum it all pointed to the temperature sender (i believe some people call it "sensor"). i replaced that without any problems, toped up the coolent + water.. and problem still persits :(
Its so annoying to have the light flashing while im driving when there doesnt seem to be any issues.

does anyone out there have any idea's on what could be causing this?
all thoughts appriciated

id get it plugged into vag com - its better to have the proper codes to tell if there is something wrong internally in the coolant system :)

ignition on, plug in the cable under the ashtray, load up vag com, choose Engine 01 then fault codes

are you using a PC with it already installed, or will you be installing it first?

The fault could well be a faulty coolant level sensor in the expansion tank - check its properly plugged in and clean the contacts.

So.. i managed to pick up the kit..
pluged it all in, turned on the ignition and ran the test. Outcome = no error codes.

so then i proceeded to tuning my car on and waiting for the temp light to show up. i waited 10mins, then 15, then 20.. NOTHING! the light didnt turn on, and the temp gauge didnt go up either.

i know it was cold yeasterday (i live in east london). should i have let the engine run for longer?

Hi Alex,
managed to get a bit more intimate with the VAG-COM sw..
it spat out the following codes:
Address 01: Engine
Protocol: KW1281
Controller: 045 906 019 AB
Component: 1,4l R3 EDC 0000SG 1210
Coding: 00003
Shop #: WSC 00788

Address 03: ABS Brakes
Protocol: KW1281
Controller: 6X0 907 379 B
Component: ABS 30 IE CAN V004
Coding: 05603
Shop #: WSC 01234

I'm kind of ok withe the ABS error as thats been an intermittent problem for about the last 3-4 weeks. any idea what the first one is.. and would you know if it would be related to the temp light problem i've been having?

Thats not error codes you have printed there - thats just controller numbers. You need to go into the Engine 01 Group and then go to Fault Codes to retrieve the codes in a sensible format mate ;)
