iPod adapter

Post by Gillen »

Where does this black plug go? (has single brown wire going into it)

The blue one plugs in to where the CD changer is, but where does this one go?

Hey i had this problem, i had to cut off the adapter and then ground the brown cable to something..

You can either tap it into the brown on the existing harness or ground it another way.

Quickest way is to get a splice and just join the brown wire to the brown wire on the headunit harness

When i cut the brown wire that goes into the harness now, the bit left sticking out of the harness, is this the one i join the brown from this ipod adapter? What happens to the other end of the brown harness wire i cut?

Thanks! :D

Dont cut the wire going into the harness! You need to tap into it ie you are joining the ipod adapter brown wire inline with the brown on the harness now. If you cut it, and have a loose end, your radio will not work at all.

You need a splice connector

http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?ModuleNo=1073

Basically you get both wires, you put each in a channel on the splice, and press it together - itll make a link between them. No cutting anything ;)

Ah, i see now!

So i run the brown wire fromt the harness through the left channel (looking at the picture in the link) and once i've cut the connector off the ipod brown wire, this goes in the right one?

So no need to strip any wire etc? When i press the connecter together, this makes a little cut through the wire casing and makes a connection with the bare wire?

Sounds easy, i'll pick one up tomorrow! Thanks :)

I put the earth from the factory harness into one channel, the earth from the ipod adapter in the other then pressed it shut. I opened it up again to make sure the contact had gone through both wires and it has.

The only other thing to plug in was the bit that goes in where i took the connection for the CD changer out.
